Hola, lovelies! My names is Liz and after much procrastination (something I’m notorious for) I finally started a blog. Which means I might finally be joining the year 2011. Wait, what? You’re thinking, “what does that even mean??” Well, I’ve been carrying around a beat up (but pretty and pink) journal where I haphazardly tape pictures of everything, use too many glitter pens and write my journal entries in what I like to call “girly chickenscratch.” I should also mention I didn’t actually get a cell phone until I was 17 and I’ve only ever owned 3… in 5 years. Considering most of my friends have a new phone every few months, I think that’s amazing.
So, what’s the deal with this blog? Well, I mainly started it as an outlet. I was recently diagnosed with Type 1.5 diabetes and hypothyroidism. Big shock for this 20-something girl who went from wondering how to pay for her slight obsession with baking and red-wine (usually together) to wondering how to pay for diabetes (big $$$$). So, needless to say, I’ve had a lot going on with me physically and emotionally. Luckily, I’ve found some really great outlets that have been helping me a ton. And I want to write about them. Because who knows… if they help me, they might help someone else.
The internet is an awesome tool. Without it, I wouldn’t have found the DOC (Diabetes Online Community) and I probably wouldn’t have started a blog. Ever want to hear about the history of the internet? I’m your girl. Guess that’s what happens when media consumes your entire undergraduate career. And it was awesome.
So, this blog really has no direction yet. Like the wind, I’m going to see where it takes me (oohh, so zen). I know I want to write about diabetes, because, well that’s kind of a huge part of my life now. But so are my friends and my family. And baking. Especially gluten-free baking. Wine holds a special place in my heart. As does traveling. I love photography so that might get thrown in there. Maybe I’ll talk about my favorite books. And chocolate. I could never have a blog where I don’t write about my love for chocolate. And peanut butter. Together.
So, thanks for checking it out. Leave comments, ask questions. I’d love to get to know you and for you to know me.
